Tricast, a fast growing company, was faced with several issues that needed immediate attention. Tricast needed a web-solution that not only met their own internal management programs but also be able to manage massive amounts of data for its clients.
Tricast develops and employs a suite of custom analytical software for auditing and assessing pharmacy benefits management groups for its clients. They provide expert advice and guidance to their health care industry clients to improve the overall effectiveness of the way they prescribe and deliver pharmacy benefits for their patients.

The Tricast Challenge

Given unprecedented growth over the last few years, Tricast has been faced with the challenge of scaling their IT infrastructure and application model for providing pharmacy data analysis and handling the growing number and complexity of clients that they have been servicing.

Tricast has the challenge of needing expertise in both pharmacy, pharmacy benefit management, data mining, and application development. It is faced with a unique challenge of needing to balance the challenges of warehousing in a scalable and transparent way, massive amounts of data for its clients as well as its own internal benefits management programs.

Acumium was brought in to assist audit, assess, and assist in the development of the strategy necessary to scale several key aspects within the organization.

Specific areas of focus for the project:
  • Provide a current picture of the organizational efforts with respect to the efforts involved with supporting the Tricast product lines in the following categories: People, Products, Process, Tools
  • Provide analysis of the identified efforts to provide feedback on the current and future issues that the organization faces
  • Provide a set of actionable initiatives that can be implemented to solve for the primary issues that are identified
  • Provide a set of guidance to approach implement the suggested initiatives

The Acumium Solution

In order to develop a clear picture of the organizations needs, Acumium conducted a comprehensive audit in all of the key areas of the organization. All key employees were interviewed and a detailed summary of the findings recorded. In the process, the following key areas were investigated in each business areas:
  • Communication
  • Process Definition
  • Process Management
  • Quality Assurance
  • Measurement Tracking
During the analysis several areas were consistently focused on to develop the overall picture of the current state of the initiatives in the organization as well as provide insight to the direction and velocity of change:
  • Activities/Responsibilities - what are the generally defined tasks and responsibilities for each person or role reviewed
  • Capabilities - what were the capabilities of the person or tool and how are they begin applied
  • Communication - what types and levels of communication are performed by each person/role in the organization and how is communication managed
  • Documentation - what is documented within by each person and within the organization as a definition and history of process and change management
  • Environment - what is the environment like for the people and equipment as far as the space they have to operate
  • Measurement/Metrics - what is being measured and how well are measurements kept for accurate determination of state and trends
  • Compartmentalization - how well are tools, process, and responsibilities partitioned
  • Proactive/Reactive - how much planning or adjusting is being made by each person or tool
  • Barriers - what exists as a perceived barrier to success
Acumium provides ongoing consulting to Tricast Inc. to provide invaluable insight to some of the unique challenges it faces as a pharmacy consulting, application developer, and underwriter.

As part of the audit, Acumium has also recommended a preliminary set of recommendations and areas of focus for next initiatives and has more clearly defined the current and potential future challenges of the organization. In its ongoing relationship, Acumium will work closely with Tricast to prioritize and develop specific initiatives and strategies as part of their efforts to extend and scale their business practice.
