Frequently Asked Questions

We Get Lots of Questions. Here Are Some Answers

What does Acumium mean and how do you pronounce it?
It’s a made-up word, thoughtfully crafted by our Founder and CEO, Dan Costello. It describes us pretty well. It’s a setting in which acuity (sharpness of vision) and acumen (accuracy and keenness of insight) thrive. It’s pronounced /a-cue-me-um/. Give it a try and say it out loud.

How do you run projects?
Digital projects can be complex. Our experience has shown careful, detail-oriented planning and implementation are critical to optimize schedules and budget and get you to “done” as quickly and cleanly as possible. We use a proven iterative and incremental approach, based on the Agile project methodology, to ensure you get a lasting solution that will grow with you.

How long will it take to complete my project?
If we were to actually try to answer that question here, we hope you’d run away screaming, because we’d have revealed ourselves as hacks. It totally depends. Every project is different, and we need to learn more about what you’re looking for before we talk timeline. The best first step would be to drop us a note at hello@acumium.com so we can start a conversation about what you need.

How much do you charge?
This is impossible to answer without knowing more about what you’re looking for. While we can offer reasonable ranges on some types of work based on previous experience, our pricing is based on the needs of your project, the complexity, and how much time and effort it’ll take us to complete it. The best first step is to talk with us so we can start a conversation about what you need.

What kinds of service engagements do you offer?
It depends on what you need. Whether you have a pretty clearly defined project or you’re looking for more ongoing, consultative help, we can design an engagement that will meet your needs. After an initial conversation, we can start with one of our website or marketing audits and do some fact-finding, or dive right into a discovery phase to start fleshing out your requirements. We can be strategic, we can layout the plan and do all the work or we can be your flexible, plug-and-play get it done company. Regardless of the approach, we tailor our recommended plan to you. We don’t do "one size fits all," we don’t operate like a mysterious black box, and we don’t toss things over the wall to you and walk away. We’re in this together, and we want you to be happy with the results.

Who’s your ideal client?
We love working with highly collaborative and decisive people who can clearly articulate what they need, both from a project requirements and day-to-day engagement perspective. Our favorite clients want to grow their presence and influence on the web, and understand that goal requires strategic and reasonable investments of time and budget. We look for clients who want an ongoing partnership and who place the same value on maintaining a productive and healthy relationship as we do.

Do you just work with clients in Wisconsin?
Nope. Though we love the face-to-face collaboration we get with many of our clients close to home, we also enjoy just as productive of relationships with clients in Illinois, Florida, New York, Ohio, Minnesota, Colorado, Texas, Arizona and Michigan. One of the benefits of being a digital agency is we’re pretty comfortable using digital capabilities to collaborate remotely.

But my business is kind of unique. Will you really understand my needs?
We feel pretty confident the answer is yes, for two reasons. First, our portfolio is quite broad already. Since 2001, we’ve partnered with clients ranging from small businesses to publicly traded companies. Our client list and the industries we serve are growing all the time. Second, we’re quick studies. Even if we haven’t specifically worked with a company like yours before, we’re smart and we’re curious. You’ll find we know your business like it’s our own before too long. Want to know more? Give us a call today!

What industries do you work with?
What industry are you in? It’s likely on the list. We’ve already helped our partners do a better job selling and promoting clothing, food, insurance, stem cells, drug testing, IT services, medical products, gift cards, coffee, frozen meals, leather goods, nutritional supplements, customized cases, phone holders, water park passes and craft beer. We don’t focus as much on the industry or business; we focus on the fit and the relationship. We want to work with people whose core values align with ours, on interesting work that matches well with our capabilities.

What if I just want an initial conversation? I don’t want to sign myself up for daily sales calls.
Yeah, don’t you hate that? We don’t operate that way. Hard sell isn’t our style. We’d love to have a no-pressure initial conversation. It’ll take less than a half hour. It’s free. We can talk about whatever you want to talk about: your digital hopes and dreams (or frustrations), questions you have about our capabilities, more information about work we’ve done in a certain area or for a certain client, the weather, whatever. If you like what you’re hearing, we’ll arrange to talk again. If you don’t, we won’t. You’re in control.
